| 内容記述 | In Japan, life expectancy has increased dramatically and an unprecedented death-ridden society is about to begin. The situation surrounding aged people has changed greatly, and now we have to live while being conscious of death. Meanwhile, the education for medical staffs to learn about death is inadequate in terms of its contents and time. What lies behind this issue is that medicine has focused on extending people’s lifespan and tends to regard death as defeat. However, death is inevitable for human beings. I believe it necessary to shift from the medicine that focuses on avoiding death to introducing thanatology into public health science that all health care workers learn in order to gain a viewpoint that death and life are the same. To this end, I propose reexamination of WHO definition of health as well as active involvement of specialists and practitioners from other fields, such as thanatology, in public health science. | |||||
